The ICO says that the issue of consent surrounding the use of data has proved to be increasingly high-profile recently and has been reflected in the large number of responses to its draft GDPR Consent Guidance.

The public consultation on the ICO’s first piece of detailed, topic-specific GDPR guidance is now closed and the ICO received more than 300 responses from organisations across a variety of sectors, along with interested members of the public.

The ICO says that the hard work of analysing the feedback is under way and this will feed into the final version of the Guidance. The ICO will also be taking into account any guidelines on consent that may be issued by relevant European authorities.

The ICO says that it is working towards having a final version of the GDPR Consent Guidance ready for publication in June, although this timescale may be affected by developments at European level. It will also be producing a summary of the responses that it received to the consultation.

This piece of guidance is, however, only one issue on a very specific topic, the ICO says. Accordingly, it is also looking at the other areas of the GDPR where guidance is needed. To read the ICO’s blog piece in full, click here.
