The updated interception of communications code of practice reflects developments in the law since the code was brought into force in 2002.

The Code of Practice also provides more information on the safeguards that apply to the security and law enforcement agencies’ exercise of interception powers and includes amendments made following a public consultation (as reported in N2K in October 2022).

The Code of Practice has been brought into force by The Investigatory Powers (Covert Human Intelligence Sources and Interception: Codes of Practice) Regulations 2022 on 8 December 2022. To access the Code of Practice, click here.
